Stoop Criminal
VHS Epics
And so it was time of experiment with lighting effects while getting extra audience reach by drawing reimagined versions of beloved cartoon characters. But since the Disney Princess market was a bit saturated, I chose some less known faces that deserved the same honour. That’s how the VHS Epics collection started.
This is the turn of the Stoop Kid from Hey Arnold!
Tattoos & Ladders
The Stoop Kid lost his fearsome reputation because he was too attached to his home stoop. He then goes on to face his fears and all that, but what if he had embraced his feelings toward staircases and worn it with pride and even defiance? Being the 90s, he would have probably got some monochrome tattoos and worn his jeans backwards.

Optical illusions, like M.C. Esther’s, seemed like an appropriate way to represent obsession for staircases.

Some of the tattoo designs might have been inspired by iconic looks from the 90s.
Process
I usually start with some rough line sketches and play around with the point of view and positions. When I’m happy with the general composition, I draw the contours with more precision using the base colour for each area. Then I choose subtle warm or cold variations for the shadow and highlights to do the basic shading of the volumes. Finally I add the texture details, specular highlights and other reflections from the surroundings.
